"So When Do I Start My Kick?"

Tanner Lees

Tanner Lees plans on having a fabulous finish to his high school athletic career. He planned on having an incredible kick at the District Meet as well. But we think he planned it a little early. With many runners to catch, he shifted into kick mode with just over 400 meters to go, flying past several runners as if they were turtles stuck in mud. Shortly after, he found out he had more to go than he realized. After a few passed him back, his last 50 meter surge did propel him to 21st place, the last individual qualifying slot. His 17:05 was enough to earn him 2nd Team All-League honors, and ranks him 11th on the All-Time Top Ten list for Panthers. Tanner's reason for success this year at District versus last year? No spider bites to contend with.

Hide and Go Seek

Amelia Pullen

When you play 'Hide and Go Seek,' the objective is to intentionally get lost and hope others cannot find you. Last year while leading the District Meet, Amelia Pullen unintentionally got lost a few times as she veered off course, but the other runners kept finding her. This year she intentionally got lost (but staying on course) as she ran so far ahead of all the other competitors that they could not see her most of the race. She WON! She won the race and she won the 'Hide and Go Seek' game. She smashed the course record in the process by 50 seconds. After she had won the race, she finally quit playing the game as well. It still took any of the other competitors well over a minute for them to find her at the finish line waiting there for them!
