When a race is run on a brand new course, it is obvious someone is going to set a course record. And for our brand new 3000 Meter course at Cottonwood Beach for the Middle School program, it was also obvious that 8th grader Kyle Cooper was the favorite to capture that honor. His 6th place finish on the previous Saturday at the Nike Pre-Nationals was impressive (nearly 200 runners were in the race). This was Kyle's first XC win (only his second XC race) as he negotiated the grass, gravel and sand of our home course in 11:09. Kyle is one of the major reasons the future of the Washougal High School XC appears to be extraordinarily bright!
24:09. 24:06. 24:05.62. Those were Sydney Hickey's last 3 PR's. Are we ready for the 23's yet??? 23:59 - YES! Finally! We should have known that it would happen against Ridgefield at our own home course at Cottonwood Beach, since that is who we ran against and where when she broke 25 minutes for the first time. Keep in mind that our course is a Black Course (slower than most). Thus is seems reasonable to assume that she in on track to break 23 once we hit the faster courses. We all know that Sydney smiles more than the average person, and we also see her smile much more than her usual quota after running impressive PR's. Sydney: Keep running and keep smiling!
