The "Run-Down": Hudson's Bay @ Home
In the Woodland Run-Down, I mentioned "it doesn't get much better than this". Well, I think I may have lied! During our only home meet of the year, we had perfect weather, William Clark Park was manicured better than I have ever seen before and the Panthers stay undefeated at home for the past 2 years. Hudson's Bay brought a bigger team (hats off to them for that accomplishment) but the Panthers proved they were still the better team.
In the boy's race, our "Triple Threat" cruised around the "triple loop" around William Clark Park uncontested with finishing times of 18:11, 18:15 and 18:16 for Junior Aiden Pullen, Senior Bailey Duncan and Freshman Gabriel Dinnel. Not bad for a "Black" course tempo run. One minute to the second behind the leader came the barrage of panthers in the "19's." This consisted of four Freshmen (Troy Prince-Butterfield, Koy Chaston, Ian Palmer and Jeffery Wells), one Sophomore (Tanner Lees) and two seniors both running their 2015 debut race (Luke Belzer and Collin Manning). That put 10 Panthers under the 20 minute barrier to just 3 for the visiting Eagles.
To wrap up the day, the girls were led by Junior Hannah Swigert as she notched her first ever XC win, despite taking a slight detour due to poor course markings (one Eagle boy was also lured into this minor botch). Our two Fabulous Freshmen Brooklyn Bausch and Annabelle Palmer made an "Eagle Sandwich" out of H-Bay's top runner, both showing they are making a name for themselves in this league. Other noteworthy performances came from Junior Abby Lees and Sophomore Jeannine Jones with season's bests and a PR from Junior Sonata Jensen-Meyer - impressive performances considering we were on a "Black" course.
The team scores tallied up as follows: The boys win was huge with a 17 to 46 score. The girls were solid, even without team captain Courtney Owens, posting a 22 to 36 score. The boy's team winning streak has been "run up" to 8 while the girls are now 2 and 1 in League this year.
Next Wednesday the Panthers face the Spudders of Ridgefield (host team) and the Jacks and Jills of R.A. Long at Abrams Park.
